Frankreich holt sich den ersten Mixed-Staffelsieg der Saison
Emily Harrop und Thibault Anselmet begeisterten das Heimpublikum in Val Thorens und holten sich den ersten Mixed-Staffelsieg der ISMF-Weltcup-Saison 2023/24. Der Sieg gelang nach einem harten Kampf mit Team Spanien (Oriol Cardona und Ana Alonso), das als Zweiter die Ziellinie überquerte. Giulia Murada und Nicolo Canclini bescherten Italien die Bronzemedaille.
Der Sonntag brachte die Sonne nach Val Thorens zum zweiten Wettkampftag im französischen Resort, obwohl die Temperaturen immer noch unter Null lagen. Im neuen „Olympischen“ Wettbewerbsformat starteten 43 Teams in die Qualifikationsrunde, wobei China (11 Teams) und Frankreich (9 Teams) die Länder mit der breitesten Präsenz waren, während Spanien, die Schweiz und Italien drei Teams hatten. Österreich, Deutschland, Polen und Japan zwei Teams , der Rest der Nationen je ein Team, insgesamt 13 starteten verschiedene Länder.
Die Qualifikation war ein harter Kampf für alle Teams, da sie wussten, dass nur ein Team pro Land das Finale erreichen würde und maximal zwei weitere Teams aus demselben Mitgliedsland für das B-Finale zugelassen waren.
Im Finale gab Emily Harrop Vollgas und versuchte, einen möglichst großen Vorsprung herauszufahren, bevor sie an ihren Teamkollegen übergab. Hinter ihr kämpften Giulia Murada (ITA), Johanna Hiemer (AUT), Ana Alonso (ESP) und Caroline Ulrich (SUI) darum, den Kontakt zu halten. Team Deutschland, die Slowakei und Polen blieben langsam hinter der Spitzengruppe zurückblieben. Slowenien, China, die USA und Japan verloren noch mehr an Boden, konnten aber verhindern, überrundet zu werden.
Harrop übergab als Erster klar an Teamkollegen Thibault Anselmet, mit fast 30 Sekunden Vorsprung auf die Gruppe aus vier Athletinnen, die sie verfolgten. Aber sobald Oriol Cardona (ESP) nach der Übergabe sein Rennen startete, begann er eine beeindruckende Aufholjagd. Beim zweiten Aufstieg lagen Cardona und Anselmet Seite an Seite, wobei beide an ihre Teamkolleginnen für die zweite Runde gemeinsam übergaben. Dahinter versuchte Nicolo Canclini (ITA), eine kleine Lücke zu Jon Kistler (SUI) und Paul Verbnjak (AUT) zu eröffnen, die alle noch relativ dicht beieinander lagen.
Die zweite Runde für Harrop war eine weitere Demonstration von Stärke und Technik, nach der sie Anselmet bei der letzten Übergabe einen Vorsprung von 42 Sekunden vor Cardona herausgelaufen hatte, eine Zeit, die für den Spanier einfach etwas zu viel war. Cardona gab zwar beim letzten Anstieg alles, konnte aber Anselmet nicht einholen, der als Erster die Ziellinie überquerte und seine Teamkollegin Harrop nach seinem ersten Saisonsieg umarmte. Er bewies damit, dass es ihn erneut zu schlagen gilt, sowohl in der aktuellen Weltrangliste als auch als Europameister.
Cardona und Alonso freuten sich sehr über ihre Silbermedaille, eine Ergänzung zu ihren beiden Siegen bei den Mixed-Staffel-Wettbewerben im letzten Jahr, während die Bronze schließlich an Canclini und Murada ging .
Eine entscheidende letzte Runde für Paul Verbnjak brachte Team Österreich auf den vierten Platz, während Team Schweiz die Top 5 vervollständigte. Das Deutsche Team Tatjana Paller/Finn Hösch errang Platz 6.
